Spain national team
The Spain National Football Team, nicknamed La Selcección, are currently ranked 7th in the FIFA World Ranking. Spain played their first international game against Belgium in Bilbao on October 7, 1921 and has since won the European Championship once in 1964, Olympic gold medal in Barcelona 1992 and the 1999 World Youth Championship where Iker Casillas lead the way. Spain has never achieved beyond quaterfinals in the World Cup, although they are often favourites to win.
The Spain National Football Team are controlled by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. The current coach is Luis Aragonés who has been on the job since 2004 and led the national team during the World Cup 2006 where Spain were knocked out in the Round of 16.
The top scorer for Spain is currently Raúl with 44 goals and he will most likely score more. The player with the most caps is goalkeepter Andoni Zubizarreta, who played between 1985-1998, with 126 caps.
World Cup 2006
Spain have qualified to the World Cup 2006 in Germany and will play in Group H along with Ukraine, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. Spain's first game will be played on June 14 against Ukraine in Leipzig.
